HERNANDEZ MORENO, ANTONIO
Disponibilidad:
In June 1916, the Russian impresario Sergei Diaghilev, in gratitude for the aid received by Alfonso XIII in the liberation of Nijinsky from a concentration camp at the beginning of the First World War, agrees with the playwright Gregorio Martinez Sierra in Madrid to adapt the novel by Pedro Antonio de Alarcon, The Three-cornered hat, to create a Spanish ballet that the Ballets Russes to be premiered. Manuel de Falla was the composer chosen by Diaghilev. Diaghilev hires in Spain the young and gifted dancer Felix Garcia, to teach Spanish rhythms to the members of the company and also play the main role in the ballet. Already in London and after a long season of performances the Ballets Russes moved to the Alhambra Theatre, where Diaghilev is finally planning to release The Three-cornered hat. The passage of the Diaghilev Ballets Russes through Spain claimed two victims: Vaslav Nijinsky and Felix Garcia. After twenty years of research, Antonio Hernandez establishes a parallel between them and throws surprising information on the tragic circumstances surrounding the premiere of the Spanish ballet.
